Job Description

Purpose of Post

To develop Schools Go Free cultural engagement program (and all school/young people initiatives). At the heart of the project is a desire to ensure that the building is a valued asset to the community of Alnwick and District. We are planning an on-going fundraising project to offer free access at least 2 times per year in the Playhouse to all primary school pupils in the Alnwick and District area. We believe that to have such a clear purpose and to be recognised for this is vital if we are to become a genuinely sustainable organisation.

Currently this is 27 schools with 2639 pupils.

The school liaison officer is a coordinator/producer/curator role that will liaise with schools and help create a cross-art- form program of work, bringing young people to our building and town at least 2 times each year. The intention is to ensure that our young people are confident in cultural engagement, within cultural buildings. The officer, through their work will make it clear that the building exists for the community and that by offering young people access to culture we are ensuring that they will have the opportunity to develop a lifelong relationship with culture.

Through this project we intend that our community broaden their understanding of the value the Playhouse has to the Alnwick and District community. By doing so to create a new ethos of funding cultural engagement for young people.

The officer will be initially responsible for a comprehensive piece of public communication/consultation to be undertaken. This may be in collaboration with University partners.

We estimate that around 80 events averaging 65 participants at an average cost of £500 per event, with 4000 £5 travel bursaries (2016 of these pupils are in rural schools).

The project will require £98,000+ funding per annum.

Report to: Artistic Director/CEO

3.5 part time post, 12 month fixed contract with possible extension.
