Ensonglopedia
Job Summary
Job Description
This project is the first step in Ensonglopedia developing a new inclusive theatre company. It will bring together deaf, disabled and neurodivergent performers and creatives for a collaborative research and development (R&D) week, exploring ideas for a new multimedia show.
Over five days, we will begin developing Project Plantlife (working title): an interactive, immersive theatre experience exploring plant lifecycles and their vital role within our ecosystem. This R&D week is not about creating a performable work-in-progress version, but about experimentation, play and discovery. The process will be intentionally non-hierarchical, with everyone working as equal collaborators across disciplines. We have an access budget to support individual needs, so everyone can work in a way that suits them.
In the room will be Ensonglopedia’s Artistic Director (John) and Dramaturg (Laura), alongside performers and designers recruited through this call-out, all contributing their skills, perspectives and creativity to help shape the foundations of the piece.
The R&D will focus on exploring how a sensory-rich performance environment could support young audiences to engage on their own terms and interact with the work in ways that feel intuitive and accessible.
Key Dates:
Deadline to apply: 11th May
Interviews: 18th, 19th, 20th May
R&D Dates: 29th, 30th June, 1st, 2nd, 3rd July
Each person invited to take part will be asked to attend 3 of the R&D dates.
Fee: £190 per day (freelance), plus up to £25 per day for travel
We have budget available to support access requirements, including BSL interpreters, Access Support Workers, and additional travel support (e.g. taxis).
We’ll discuss individual requirements with those joining the R&D to make sure the week is accessible for everyone.
The R&D days will take place at the University of Sussex, Falmer so we are looking for people based in or within commuting distance of the Sussex coast.
Job Requirements
We’re looking for performers with experience in music, movement or acting – you might specialise in one or work across several.
Ideally you will have:
– At least three years’ experience as a performer, or similar experience gained through working on two or three arts projects
– Experience working collaboratively as part of a creative team
– An interest in working across disciplines and contributing beyond your main area of practice
