Job Description
This call out is for early career or emerging artists, or mid-career artists who are interested in learning more about co-created and inclusive practice.
You will support a Lead Artist and be supported and managed by a Project Manager.
Working together with our partnership and communities in Sherburn, we’ll make exciting things happen, together.
- Our half day rate for support artists is £100. This includes approximately 2 hours of delivery and an hour to remotely support or brief with a Lead Artist each week.
- Our full day rate is £160, to include a full day of delivery (up to 6 hours, but usually 5).
Final delivery models are subject to finalising with each residency host and artists. However, we anticipate:
- Approximately 13 x half day (2 hour) workshops- 0.5 days per week or equivalent. Some flexibility is required around project needs.
- The possibility of up to 3 school holiday / weekend day-long workshops, dependent on the school.
- 1 x day festival delivery and up to 1.5 days artist’s preparation.
- The maximum payment expected, based on an early model prototype is £2200
- Start date: Early March 2026
- End date: Mid-June 2026

We aim to reach participants who may not typically be able to access the arts; including children and young people eligible to free school meals and/or with Special Educational Needs.
We are open to working with a range of arts forms and genres, including:
- Contemporary Theatre
- Puppetry
- Contemporary Dance
- Contemporary Music
- Contemporary Visual Arts, Crafts and Installation
- Contemporary Circus
- Spoken word, Creative Writing and Poetry (for performance or presentation using visual arts)
- Cross-Arts
We’re especially keen to hear from:
Musicians
Socially engaged theatre, dance or circus artists who co-devise work
Puppetry artists
Local and emerging artists
Artists from underrepresented backgrounds
Job Requirements
The ideal candidate should demonstrate:
- Study, or some earlier career experience in an artistic discipline.
- Experience or understanding of working with children and young people, including children with additional needs, and who may demonstrate challenging behaviours.
- An ability to think on your feet, and create a warm, welcoming space.
- An interest in co-creation.
- An interest in creating work for outdoor settings.
- An understanding of Safeguarding for children and adults, with a valid and current DBS for Child and Adult workforce (ideally via the DBS update service).
