Job Summary

We are looking for an experienced Safeguarding Advisor to provide clear and up to date guidance on best practise in all areas of child safeguarding that can be implemented in a practical and workable fashion in the context of the requirements of the West End and UK Tour productions of Matilda.

Job Description

This newly created role is offered as a fixed-term contract for 16 months, working part time across 4 days per week, supporting Matilda The Musical in London and on tour. Whilst based in London, the role will require frequent travel to the tour venues.

Reporting to the General Manager; key areas of responsibility include (please see the full job description and person specification for the comprehensive list):

  • Support the General Management teams and Children’s Managers on the safe recruitment, contracting and training of teams of licensed chaperones and house parents for each production.
  • Shape and support in the leading of induction processes for new audition, rehearsal and show Chaperones.
  • With an understanding of DSO responsibilities to support the DSOs appointed for the UK tour and London productions, keeping them up to date with knowledge of child centred safeguarding practice in order that all safeguarding concerns can be dealt with promptly by the General Managers and reported through the agreed pathways.
  • Provide expert safeguarding guidance to ensure rehearsal and performance environments remain safe and appropriate
  • Monitor rehearsal and performance environments to identify and mitigate potential safeguarding risks
  • Advocate for young performers voices and needs within production planning

To be suitable for this role, it is essential that you have the following:

  • Knowledge of the regulatory requirements in relation to the duties of chaperoning and child performance licenses
  • Experience of professional Chaperoning
  • Understanding of, and active interest in, safeguarding including industry best practice and policies/regulations when working with children and young people. Excellent administration skills with strong attention to detail
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced creative environment with flexibility, accuracy and sound judgement
