Libraries Rising

Job Summary

We’re looking for a Youth Engagement Project Officer with passion and experience in platforming young people’s voices, to support the development and delivery of a new funded project and to develop our wider support of libraries with their youth engagement work.

Job Description

We want all children and young people to feel at home at the library, to be understood, empowered and inspired. Our collaborative network is made up of members from library services, partners and supporters. We believe in the need for safe spaces and real-life connections to support the demands of modern life. Together, we’re creating change, and you can be a part of it.

We’re looking for someone with passion and experience in platforming young people’s voices, to support the development and delivery of a two-year project and our wider work with libraries.

What’s important to us needs to be important to you too. We want to focus on impact, to work openly, to collaborate with and learn from others, to take the time to care for ourselves and each other, and to have fun together. We want to build an environmentally sustainable charity, and be celebrated as an inclusion changemaker in the sector.

About the work

Libraries Rising and The Reading Agency were successful in securing funding from the Arts Council to deliver a two-year programme, to place young people at the heart of shaping the future library reading experience. The two-year project forms part of the legacy of the National Year of Reading 2026 and will work with young people and library services across nine regions of England to co-create new approaches, resources and digital innovations that build on the strengths of libraries and inspire more young people to read for pleasure.

You’ll support the team with managing this project and our wider work, developing ways of operating to ensure we succeed in our aims. You’ll support library services with engaging young people and help them to connect with local partners who already work with young people with diverse lived experiences. Part of this work will be supporting library teams to complete SparkSpace, Libraries Rising’s online learning module on engaging and co-creating with young people.

Job Requirements

22.5 hours (over 3-4 days)
18 month fixed term

This is a homebased role, with occasional travel to visit library services across the England. All travel expenses are covered.

What you’ll bring to the role

As Youth Engagement Project Officer, you’ll be passionate about working with young people and ideally have experience in this area. You’ll be a strong communicator, confident with building relationships and keeping projects on track, with experience providing administrative and operational support, including experience in supporting in-person and online event and training planning. You’ll be committed to co-creative practice, authentic inclusion, and ensuring young people are heard, especially those who are underserved by their communities.
