Propworks is looking for a Workshop Manager to oversee the day-to-day running of our workshop, ensuring props are delivered to the highest standard, on time, and within budget.

Propworks is a creative and forward-thinking team based in south east London. Together, we design, make and source props; primarily for theatre and live events.

We are looking for a Workshop Manager to oversee the day-to-day running of our workshop, ensuring the making and refurbishment of props is delivered to the highest standard, on time, and within budget.

This role requires hands-on workshop knowledge with strong leadership capability, financial awareness, and organisational skills. The Workshop Manager will supervise Prop Makers, both in-house and on-site, maintain workshop safety and compliance, and act as a key link between the workshop team, Project Managers, Directors, and clients.

Job Requirements

Essential

  • Significant experience in a prop making, set building, or a related workshop environment, with a functional knowledge of theatre craft;
  • Demonstrable team leadership skills with min. 3yrs in a managerial role;
  • Knowledge of workshop H&S procedures and legislation;
  • IOSH Managing Safely qualified, or willing to complete qualification;
  • Experience in costing, budgets, and supplier management;
  • Proficient in use of Microsoft Office applications and Google Workspace;
  • Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to translate creative briefs into practical solutions;
  • Excellent organisational and time-management skills;
  • Confident communicator, able to liaise with clients, suppliers, and colleagues at all levels.

Desirable:

  • CAD drafting skills to a recognised industry standard;
  • Knowledge of the Theatre Green Book and sustainable production practice;
  • Knowledge of design styles and period details;
  • Full UK driving licence
