This is a fantastic opportunity to be part of a unique and specialist team, where costumes for all RSC shows are produced, and where designers’ ideas are brought to life on our stages.
Reporting to Head of Women’s Costume, key areas of responsibility include (please see the full job description and person specification for the comprehensive list):
- To construct costumes using a variety of sewing, and tailoring techniques following direction from other workroom staff.
- To produce samples and swatches, as required by the Head of Women’s Costume.
- To carry out alterations, maintenance and refurbishment.
- To assist with measurements.
- To attend and assist at fittings.
To be suitable for this role, it is essential that you have the following knowledge and experience:
- BTEC, HND or degree in Theatre Costume or equivalent
- Substantial experience at a similar professional level.
- A strong knowledge of costume and period.
- Experience of managing theatre costume needs
- Ability to take direction and work to production related standards and objectives.
- Strong organisation, time management and administration skills.
This is a full-time, fixed term position for up to 10 months, which offers the chance to work with world-renowned designers, as well as being given the opportunity to see your work onstage at the Royal Shakespeare Theatre.
You will be based at our Costume Workshops, in Stratford-upon-Avon, on an averaged 44 hours contract typically Monday to Friday, and occasional weekends. Due to the nature of our work, there may also be a requirement to so some late evening work on stage following rehearsals and/or performances.
