Job Summary

Kenny Wax Ltd is one of the leading Production Companies operating in the West End and on Tour. We are looking for an experienced Wigs, Hair and Make-up Assistant to join our team in London for the West End transfer of this new musical.

Job Description

  • Assist the WHAM department throughout rehearsals, tech and performances;
  • Attend rehearsals and fittings as mutually agreed between us, your department, and the WHAM Designer and/or Wigs Supervisor;
  • Uphold the high production standards set by the WHAM Designer and maintain the artistic quality of the original design;
  • Assist in the maintenance of wigs/hairpieces, ensure wigs are maintained at a high standard, as directed by the Head of WHAM;
  • Assist in dressing and setting wigs/hairpieces, and assist the cast with the fitting of wigs/hairpieces;
  • Assist with quick changes during the performance;
  • Provide assistance with makeup, ensuring any makeup worn is in line with original creative designs as directed by Head of WHAM;
  • Learn the tracks in the WHAM department to ensure you can cover;
  • Ordering/replenishing department supplies;
  • Report replacements, alterations or repairs needed for the wigs and/hairpieces to the Head of WHAM;
  • Assist in overseeing deps to ensure there is cover for your department;
  • To work collaboratively with all departments, including the theatre technical team;
  • Ensure WHAM equipment and backstage areas are tidy and secure;
  • Support rehearsals, promotional/marketing events and other calls;
  • Ensure a safe working environment is maintained and Health and Safety procedures are adhered to;
  • Be a proactive member of the technical team;
  • Assist in compiling and keeping up-to-date show paperwork (hard copy and digital);
  • Obtain VAT invoices for hires and purchases;
  • Maintain the department Health and Safety record and good housekeeping procedure;
  • Comply with rules and regulations at venues under control of the Production;
  • Work in accordance with the Producer’s Health and Safety policy, which may include training;
  • Any other reasonable duty that falls within the remit of a WHAM Assistant based on industry norms, or as directed by the WHAM Designer, Wigs Supervisor, Production Manager, Head of WHAM, Company Manager, Producers or General Managers.

Job Requirements

  • Demonstrable professional experience working in a similar role in the West End or on Tour;
  • Previous experience of working on a West End musical;
  • Good Wigs/Hair experience and strong technical skills;
  • Proven experience in working with textured and afro hair and all ranges of hair types;
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written with excellent attention to detail;
  • A proactive and flexible attitude;
  • The ability to work closely with actors and creative teams, and handle confidential information with discretion;
  • The ability to work under pressure and effectively prioritise;
  • Awareness of current Health & Safety legislation;
  • Knowledge of SOLT BECTU agreements.
