Volunteer

Liverpool Irish Festival

Job Summary

We are now recruiting for Festival volunteers ahead of this year’s Festival, which runs 15th-25th October 2026. Our volunteer cohort helps us to deliver the Festival programme. Volunteers attend events and help to set up; as well as meeting artists and venue partners and greeting audiences.

Job Description

Our primary aim at Liverpool Irish Festival is to provide our volunteers with an enjoyable, interesting and interactive experience. During that time, you will help audiences enjoy their time with us, signpost for their needs and help the Festival to gather information about their journey. Volunteering for the Festival is a public facing role. It involves liaising with visitors, with in-house teams at venues and, sometimes, with our artists. Your primary role will be to make sure that members of the public are safe and set pieces are secure. You’ll be able to supply information regarding the exhibition or events you are working and may be asked to share other information about the Festival. You will answer questions to the best of your ability, and when you are unsure you will direct visitors to venue or Festival staff.

During your shift we may ask you to count the number of visitors or participants, record demographics (using our surveys), encourage visitors to give feedback (and record it) and support visitors in engaging with our social media. During events we ask you to support the Festival team by being helpful, self-sufficient and assisting where or when needed.

The maximum shift length is 4 hours. Due to the nature of our events programme, some shifts will require between 1.5 hours and 4 hours. Wherever possible, we’ll aim to place our volunteers in pairs. In advance of the Festival, you will be asked to select shifts from a rota. Each shift begins half-an-hour before the official/published event start time. Full rotas will be available within a week after the first briefing and anyone choosing to do double shifts will be given a suitable break period.

Job Requirements

To qualify for this application, you need to be:
– 18 or over
– Legally entitled to volunteer in the UK
– Willing to commit to 2-3 shifts during the ten day Festival
– Able to provide a reference

There is no specific experience required for this role, but it will be best suited to you if you are:
– Friendly, sociable and enjoy speaking to members of the public
– Interested in gaining experience in the arts, culture and heritage sectors
– Organised and good at managing your own time (we will expect you to attend your shifts at pre-agreed, convenient times for you)
– Interested in event and/or Festival management.
