Job Description

Theatre Troupe is an arts organisation supporting children aged 7-12 who’ve experienced adversity or mental distress. Through theatre and one-to-one mentoring, we help young people build confidence, connection and brighter futures.

We’re recruiting volunteer mentors and chorus members for our 2025-26 projects in Southwark and Tower Hamlets. Volunteers come from a wide range of backgrounds – including students of drama, psychology, education, social work, and anyone passionate about using creativity for social good.

Commitment: Weekly after-school sessions 3:30-7:30pm (term-time, one-term minimum) on Mondays in Southwark (dates TBC) and Wednesdays in Tower Hamlets (15th April – 8th July).
Location: Southwark Playhouse Elephant / QMUL, Mile End
Full training & safeguarding provided | Travel expenses covered
Opportunities for professional development

No theatre experience needed – just empathy, reliability and care.

Apply by 5pm on 3rd April | Interviews w/c 6th April

Job Requirements

– Empathy and Emotional Resilience: The ability to remain calm, supportive, and grounded when working with young people experiencing high levels of distress.

– Enhanced DBS Check: Given the nature of the work with minors and vulnerable adults, a clean, enhanced criminal record check is mandatory. We can process an application on your behalf if you don’t already have one.

– Reliability and Commitment: These young people often face instability; showing up consistently is crucial for building the necessary trust.

– Active Listening Skills: The capacity to hear what a young person is saying (and not saying) without judgment.

– Playfulness and Creativity: You don’t need to be a professional actor, but you do need a “game” attitude and a willingness to engage in imaginative play.

– Boundaries: An understanding of professional safeguarding bound
