Job Summary

Job Description

To promote and safeguard the welfare of children, young people and/or vulnerable adults.

2. Constructs, repairs, installs and maintains all display cases, screens, plinths, barriers and other items of display equipment in consultation with the Curatorial staff to assist in the conservation of such objects as appropriate.

3. Maintains permanent displays by effecting repairs, cleaning, painting and restoration work to enable exhibits to be presented to the public in the best way possible, minimising risk of damage or deterioration to the collection.

4. Undertakes the setting up, construction and dismantling of new displays and exhibitions at various Company venues, including picture framing, glazing, mount cutting, painting etc., to ensure a high standard of visual presentation.

5. Undertakes driving of vehicles as required for work purposes including vans, minibuses & potentially forklifts. And transportation duties as required including packing/unpacking, loading/unloading and movement of all objects and works of art, ensuring the safe transit of all such items between various stores and venues.

6. Produces estimates for construction and repair jobs, specifying materials and cost for submission and approval of senior staff.

7. Operates and maintains the services audio visual equipment and lighting to ensure a continuous level of visual presentation for all Museum and Art Gallery customers.

8. Advises and assists employees, contractors, trainees and volunteers allocated to assist the technicians in their duties as and when required, to ensure work is undertaken to the required standard

Job Requirements

  • Practical experience in technical or construction work, ideally within a museum, gallery, or heritage setting or knowledge and understanding of the specific nature of the work.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work collaboratively across teams and with external partners.
  • A proactive and flexible approach, with a commitment to high standards of presentation and care.
  • Willingness to undertake specialist training and development to gain specific skills in working with collections.
