Pepa Duarte
Job Summary
Job Description
The Project: UNDERGROWTH
UNDERGROWTH is a visually rich, magical realist performance about isolation, resistance, and the hidden networks that hold us up. Inspired by the science of fungi, it uses folk horror, storytelling, and integrated design to tell the story of a migrant woman in London whose reality shifts when mould in her flat begins to speak. It’s a luminous story of collective survival and a call for radical solidarity.
About the Team
This project is led by the creative partnership of Pepa Duarte & Sergio Maggiolo. They are Peruvian-born, London-based theatre makers whose collaborative practice is rooted in vulnerable and political storytelling. Drawing from decolonial, queer, and feminist perspectives, they create visually rich, multidisciplinary work that centres the collective power of women, migrants, and working-class communities.
Pepa is an actor and multidisciplinary theatremaker with credits across the Royal Court, Southbank Centre, BBC, and Netflix. Her solo work, rooted in community and collective power, has been presented at venues like Camden People’s Theatre and the Migration Matters Festival.
Sergio is a director, performer, and dramaturg working in queer-futurist theatre and immersive tech. He is a recent recipient of the Untapped Award 2025 for his musical JEEZUS! and previously directed Pepa in their collaboration Eating Myself, which toured the UK and China.
The Opportunity & Commitment
We are seeking a thought partner to help us translate our artistic vision into a robust, long-term strategic plan. The goal is to collaboratively map out the project’s journey, clarifying the next steps and defining the best path to move forward with ambition and clarity.
This is a short-term, high-impact role focused on envisioning and planning, not on delivering the full production
