Job Summary
Job Description
Working closely with artistic, production, and technical colleagues, the role involves stage operations, show running, fit-ups, get-outs, rigging, equipment maintenance, and backstage support, while assisting the Head of Stage in the day-to-day management of the department.
This hands-on role requires a flexible and collaborative approach, with opportunities to work across all technical theatre disciplines. You will help maintain high standards of health and safety, supervise casual staff, support visiting companies, act as Duty Technician when required, and contribute to the upkeep and development of stage facilities and equipment. As part of Derby Theatre’s Learning Theatre model, you will also support learning opportunities and help create an inspiring environment for students, artists, and audiences.
Job Requirements
Essential Criteria
– Experience of working in a stage department in Producing and Receiving theatre
– Experience of professional fit-ups and get-outs
– Experience of single purchase counterweight flying systems
– Experience with rigging to fly bars, truss, motors, and gridwork
Skills, knowledge & abilities
– Basic or higher carpentry skills
– Ability to carry out the physical demands of the role, including Get Ins and Outs, working at height, and evening and weekend work as required
– Highly organised with good attention to detail
– Creative and resourceful in problem solving, with the ability to manage time and meet deadlines
– Ability to work in a team with a wide range of people, and also work unsupervised at times
Business requirements
– Completed DBS check
Desirable Criteria
– Recognised qualification in Health and Safety
– Recognised rigging qualification
– IPAF and/or Tallescope certificate
– First Aid training
– Full UK driving license
