Job Summary

A Christmas Carol – A Ghost Story, Mark Gatiss’ retelling of Dickens’ winter ghost story, returns to Alexandra Palace Theatre this year following a phenomenally successful runs in 2021, 2023, and 2024 and we’re looking for an experienced Sound No. 2 to join the team!

Job Description

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • To assist the Production Sound Engineers and the Sound No. 1 in running the fit-up and get-out, taking particular responsibility for dealing with the radio mics.
  • Fit cast with radio mics each night, monitoring them during the show.
  • Run pre-show setup and checks.
  • Perform the backstage sound track and manage local crew where necessary.
  • Support the Sound No. 1 with the daily maintenance of the sound systems.
  • Regularly cover the Sound No. 1 track and deputise for them when necessary.
  • To familiarise themselves with the technical infrastructure of the show and supporting systems that have been installed in the building.
  • Alongside the Sound No. 1, be first point of contact with Sound Designer and Production Manager for all technical aspects of the production.
  • To provide technical support for any cast rehearsals as scheduled by the Company Stage Manager.
  • Reasonably support all technical departments during the running of the show.
  • To carry out all other duties normally associated with the role of Sound No. 2 on a first-class play.

Job Requirements

WE ARE LOOKING FOR

  • Operational Sound experience and excellent technical skills.
  • Experience fitting microphones in a theatre setting.
  • Experience in line-by-line mixing is desirable.
  • Flexible and self-motivated with the ability to work well with others.
  • A calm and practical approach to technical trouble-shooting.
  • Ability to work under pressure.
  • Good communication and organisational skills.
