Job Summary
Job Description
The ideal candidate will bring professional industry insight, technical ability, strong teaching skills, and the ability to prepare and deliver content to suit different ages and abilities.
Key Responsibilities
- Independently plan and lead weekly group Acting for Screen classes, facilitating an inclusive, engaging environment.
- Teach core screen skills such as blocking for camera, working with framing, eye line and continuity. Introduce students to on-camera performance techniques, including stillness, subtlety, and truthfulness.
- Guide students through exercises in:
- Script analysis for screen acting
- Understanding and interpreting character briefs
- Improvisation and character development for camera
- Self-taping and audition technique
- Working with monologues, duologues and group scenes
- Understanding crew roles, set conventions and etiquette
- Film and review class exercises to help students evaluate and refine their performances.
- Create opportunities for students to build a basic screen portfolio / showreel.
- The ability to facilitate sharing of ideas and contributions at group level and also provide ongoing positive, constructive feedback tailored to each individual student’s development.
- Work collaboratively with the school’s Director to outline and implement plans / themes for each term, encompassing any output / screenings to be made available to parents / guardians.
Job Requirements
Essential Skills & Experience
- A professional background in screen acting, directing, or filmmaking
- Proven experience teaching or coaching young people in screen performance
- Strong understanding of acting technique for camera
- Confidence filming and providing playback to support student progress
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- A patient, encouraging, and flexible teaching style
- This position will require the successful candidate to have Public and Products Liability Insurance (£5m minimum), and an up to date Enhanced DBS on the Update Service
Desirable
- The ability to utilise provided studio resources over the year to their full potential
- Experience of supervising students to film / edit video
- Awareness of current trends for creating effective showreels and self-tapes
- Knowledge of the latest contemporary film / TV / streaming media
- Utilising existing industry contacts to enhance the overall training offer; e.g. guest visits
- Up to date First Aid training
