The Place

Job Summary

Resolution is The Place’s annual festival for new choreography and performance works, taking place from 9 Jan – 25 Feb 2026. We’re looking for short, live works (max 25 minutes) to be performed in our black box theatre space.

Job Description

Apply to perform in Resolution 2026!

Resolution exists to support and celebrate new ideas. It’s a well established festival and has been running for over 30 years! We invite artists to propose exciting ideas for new work that they really believe in and use the festival as a platform to create that work.

As well as presenting work to an audience of peers, professionals and critics, the Resolution artists take part in a series of supportive and practical artist development workshops.

In 2026, artists will have the choice to present their work either in the traditional end-on theatre configuration, or as an ‘in-the-round’ performance in our 288 seated auditorium. All pieces in Resolution will be shared as part of a triple bill and any UK based artists working in live performance can apply.

We welcome a range of performance styles, including dance, dance theatre, physical theatre, hip hop, South Asian dance, circus, live art, performance art, and more. The most important thing is the quality of the idea. We are most excited by work that centers movement and where the body is one of the key modes of artistic exploration and expression.

There are no upfront costs to the festival, and applications are free. Artists learn from industry professionals through supportive and practical workshops.

Financially, the festival works as follows:

  • The theatre takes a first call of £1605 of the box office income for each night of Resolution.
  • Any box office income which exceeds this amount is divided equally between the 3 companies who share the night.
  • If you don’t sell enough tickets to cover this £1605, you must pay the theatre the remaining balance which is also divided equally between the 3 companies who share the night.
  • There are no upfront costs and no further charges.

This is one of The Place’s most significant open calls each year and the panel have the privilege of reading many applications. What they want to know is who you are and what your idea is.

We are looking for ideas for works that are 15 – 25 minutes in length and we are interested in artists who really want to take part in the journey of Resolution, from learning and refining your skills through the tailored workshops, to promoting and performing your work at the festival.
