Job Summary

We are looking for a Props Supervisor for a period of up to 12 months to cover family leave. You will join a small and very busy Props team, based at our Scenic Workshops in Stratford-upon-Avon

Job Description

Do you have significant experience in prop buying at a national company or theatre? Can you take a designer’s vision and realise it for the stage? Do you have an eye for detail and the ability to work to a deadline? Can you lead, motivate and inspire a team?

We are looking for a Props Supervisor for a period of up to 12 months to cover family leave. You will join a small and very busy https://www.rsc.org.uk/about-us/how-we-make-theatre/props – Props team, based at our Scenic Workshops in Stratford-upon-Avon. As Props Supervisor, you will coordinate and provide all property requirements for all shows and be responsible for researching, sourcing, and purchasing the most efficient, sustainable, and cost-effective properties and materials for projects.

You must be happy to join a small, hardworking team, be flexible in your approach and able to respond quickly to rapidly changing requirements. The team operate in a united effort to deliver designers’ visions for our shows. Ideally, you will be able to take direction, react quickly, be organised and meet deadlines. We are looking for someone with a passion for theatre, who enjoys really varied work and who brings a creative flair with an eye for detail.

This position is offered as a full time, fixed term contract for up to 12 months ideally starting in early March 2026. You will be working an average of 44 hours per week across a year, some weeks will be busier that others due to the nature of the role and organisation. There will be occasional evening and weekend work. You will be predominantly based at the Scenic Workshops in Stratford-upon-Avon although working in our other sites is required.

Job Requirements

To be suitable for this position, you should have:

  • Significant experience in prop buying
  • Advanced knowledge of period furniture and props
  • Hand and machine sewing skills, knowledge of fabric types, ability to read and interpret drawings, alteration and refurbishment techniques
  • Proven team leadership, management and motivational skills
  • Clear communication skills and the ability to build good working relationships
