VocalEyes
Job Summary
Job Description
VocalEyes is an arts organisation and charity that works with and for blind and visually impaired people, creating accessible performances, events, and digital media for arts and heritage venues across the UK, primarily through audio description services.
We are funded by Arts Council England as part of their National Portfolio. Our team of audio describers, trainers, and consultants works with hundreds of theatres, museums, galleries, and heritage sites each year. We are also a Disability Confident Committed Employer.
We’re seeking an experienced Project Manager with an interest in access and heritage to lead our 22-month Co-Creative Audio Description (AD) project: Describing Heritage. The post would suit someone with strong administrative and project management skills, who is solution-focused, confident in building community and stakeholder relationships, experienced in leading and coordinating freelancers, and able to strategically manage their own workload.
We welcome applications from individuals of all backgrounds and lived experiences. We are committed to being an inclusive employer and to building a workforce that reflects the diversity of the communities we serve. We foster a supportive and inclusive environment for all employees.
We particularly encourage applications from people with lived experience of blindness, disabled people, deaf and/or neurodivergent people, and those from Black, Asian and ethnically diverse backgrounds, as these groups are currently under-represented in our workforce. VocalEyes is a Disability Confident employer.
Job Requirements
To lead the successful delivery of VocalEyes’ Co-Created Audio Description in Heritage project: Describing Heritage.
All our work supports arts and heritage organisations in welcoming blind and visually impaired people, mainly through Audio Description (AD) services, training, and consultancy.

This project builds on the co-creative approaches to the interpretation of heritage assets that VocalEyes has been piloting to date as well as the development of co-creation techniques led by Alison Eardley and the W- ICAD project.
VocalEyes’ Describing Heritage project is made possible with The National Lottery Heritage Fund with additional support from the Will Charitable Trust, and the City Bridge Foundation.
