Job Description

Our finale event, We are Big Local, is being held on 27 March 2026 at the East Side Rooms in Birmingham. We expect to host 300-400 volunteers and 50-100 staff and partners.

The event will run from 4pm for people to enjoy the immersive exhibition, followed by a drink’s reception, sit-down meal and entertainment/interactive elements dotted throughout the event. However, we do have exclusive use of the venue from 9am to midnight to support with set-up and dissembling.

The exhibition, along with the entertainment/interactive elements, can be spread across the totally accessible venue, and will form part of the decoration that will turn a corporate venue into a place celebrating community-led change. We will be hiring an event production team to install the d cor and lighting before the event begins at 4pm.

We are seeking a creative and collaborative Producer (individual, organisation, collective) to work with our Big Local volunteers over the next 7 months to create and deliver the immersive exhibition element of the event, reflecting on over a decade of the Big Local programme.

Our aims for the immersive exhibition:

  • To deliver a coherent narrative that celebrates resident led change and reflects on over a decade of the Big Local programme
  • To present an exciting and engaging mixed media exhibition that is conceptually and aesthetically shaped by and with Big Local volunteers from the 150 Big Local areas
  • There are a minimum of 20 submissions from Big Local areas that could be photos, poems, tapestry or delivery a performance
  • Elements of the exhibition are interactive allowing attendees to contribute on the day
  • The exhibition and the process of creating it upholds principles relating to diversity, inclusion and belonging and environmental sustainability

Job Requirements

  • Proven experience in producing immersive or multi-media exhibitions, co-created with diverse communities. Including supporting and mentoring community groups to develop their own pieces as part of a collaborative creative process
  • Demonstrated expertise in curating diverse creative media and delivering inclusive, participatory experiences
  • Strong facilitation skills to engage and support volunteers, artists and community groups
  • Experience developing exhibition narratives and interpretation content
  • Availability to deliver across a timeline of July 2025 to March 2026
  • Capacity to attend site visits in Birmingham
  • Ability to manage project phases, budgets, schedules, and collaborate across teams including Local Trust staff, external event producers, artists and volunteers
  • Knowledge of accessible and sustainable exhibition practices
  • Portfolio evidence (with visuals) of past work
  • Clear, well-structured proposal including vision, workplan and budget breakdown upon application
