About us

Gothic Opera is a female-led company based in London which produces award-winning, atmospheric productions of rarely-heard operatic works with supernatural themes. One of the company’s central aims is to open up the art form to those who are not familiar with it.

With a main production each Halloween, Gothic Opera is becoming increasingly well known among audiences, critics, and artists, particularly those in the early part of their careers.

Our productions have included Die Rheinnixen (Offenbach) in 2025 and Maria de Rudenz (Donizetti) in 2024, which took place in the Grand Hall at Battersea Arts Centre; Rip Van Winkle (Planquette) in 2023 and La nonne sanglante (Gounod) in 2021 which was staged at Hoxton Hall; and Der Vampyr (Marschner), which was performed in the Old Church, Stoke Newington and the Asylum Chapel in Peckham in 2019, and revived in summer 2024 at the Grimeborn Festival.
