Job Summary

The Press Officer is responsible for all press requests coming into the gallery; writing press releases and sales texts; and supporting the Digital Communications Manager and Archive Manager on gallery and external communications.

Job Description

Main responsibilities:

Press

– Managing the day-to-day running of the press department, ensuring press requests are dealt with in a timely manner and approval is sought from appropriate parties
– Devise strategic approach towards press outreach and collaborate with external press advisor
– Fielding external requests for gallery founder and artists
– Circulating exhibition dates, press releases and images
– Press research for upcoming projects
– Updating and maintaining the gallery’s press database
– Support on external exhibitions and publications with relevant artist/liaison/studio

Writing

– Press releases for gallery exhibitions
– Sales texts and artwork descriptions
– Artist short biographies
– Artist commission proposals, applications, statements and texts
– Proofread and edit external texts

Marketing:

– Support combined press and marketing strategic approach for exhibitions and events across social media, mailings and WeChat

As a member of SCHQ, flexibility is required in terms of:
– To job share where necessary i.e., holiday and sick cover
– Answering phones, taking and passing on messages
– To work on special projects as requested by gallery staff, such as research

Job Requirements

Essential job requirements:

– Writing experience and an ability to write for multiple channels
– Demonstrable proof reading experience
– Demonstrable experience working in fast paced environment and an ability to manage own work load

Desirable:

– Media relations and journalist outreach experience
– Marketing and social media experience

Hours: 10:00 – 18:00, Monday – Friday
