There is now an opportunity for you to be part of our dynamic, picture research team, based at our busy offices near King’s Cross. Your keen and wide-ranging interest in art, history, archaeology and culture is demonstrable. In addition to being visually literate you are personable, hard-working, confident, calm and articulate, with excellent organizational, negotiating and computer skills. You enjoy working as part of team as much as on your own initiative and take pride in your meticulous attention to detail.

Job Requirements

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • An arts degree and a willingness to develop your knowledge of archaeology, art history, history, photography, and applied arts
  • Familiarity with a wide range of sources including international agencies, artists’ studios, and galleries
  • Sound understanding of picture copyright and up-to-date with regulations governing the use of images
  • Good negotiating skills
  • Demonstrable ability to be proactive, work across multiple projects, prioritise effectively and deliver to
    deadlines and set budgets
  • Excellent administration and record-keeping skills
  • Exceptional attention to detail
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office 365/Adobe suite especially Adobe Photoshop and Acrobat
  • Knowledge of at least one foreign language a plus

Job Responsibilities

The Role

  • Research high quality, editorially accurate, illustrative material, and clear copyright, for a diverse range of titles
  • Liaise with authors, editors, and designers about picture content for each title
  • Negotiate competitive reproduction fees and best usage terms
  • Provide content to editorial briefs, according to tight schedules and set budgets
  • Compile illustration / credit lists following in-house style
  • Check and authorise layouts and colour proofs and liaise with production to monitor picture quality
  • Clear reproduction permissions with all relevant rights holders
  • Select and clear pictures for press and online sales
  • Document clearance process, process all relevant invoices and maintain clear and complete filing as per picture research guidelines
