Job Summary

We are seeking a recent graduate or emerging Choreographer/Movement Director passionate about working with a small and dedicated team to develop movement-based choreography. You will be performing and also working with 2 other performers, subject to discussion.

Job Description

We are seeking a Choreographer/Movement Director for a 20-minute movement-based piece. Currently, the show dates are scheduled for September (TBC), with one performance at the Bush Theatre (TBC) and one at Leeds Playhouse (TBC). The project aims to visually portray the delicate balance between Chinese cultural philosophy and Western identities for the stage. Therefore, we are looking for an open-minded creative with diversity and cultural awareness, who is enthusiastic about collaborating with a passionate team to achieve the best possible outcome.

This is a micro-budget production, part of a residency within a London-based theatre’s emerging artist program. A flat fee of £500, equivalent to approximately 40.95 hours at the National Living Wage (£12.21 per hour).

Job Requirements

  • Modern dance studies background with experience showcasing choreographed shows
  • Preferably Chinese folk or traditional dance background and interest in blending Chinese traditional dance techniques to create a modern dance piece
  • To choreograph a 20-minute piece with the creative director and to perform
  • Friendly, communicative, and collaborative team player

– A cover letter explaining your interest in this role (no more than 300 words) & a CV
– A link to your portfolio, preferably with examples of working with costume design
– Submit video sample of your previous showcase or your interpretation of blending Chinese traditional and modern dance
– Feel free to reach out if you’d like to know more about the project or have any questions 🙂
