Job Description
The Secretary of State wishes to appoint three new Trustees to the National Museums Liverpool (NML) board. These Trustees will bring experience and expertise in one or more of the following areas: (i) legal expertise, (ii) building development, planning and estate management expertise and (iii) curatorial/historical knowledge. The successful candidates will contribute to the governance of NML and the delivery of its objectives.
NML is engaged in a bold and transformative ten year programme, reinventing what museums can be for its communities and the world. Each of its seven museums offers something unique, but collectively they create something truly extraordinary. NML are continuing to build upon our established and significant impact within the cultural landscape as it pursue an ambitious journey to strengthen its presence regionally, nationally, and globally.
During your trusteeship, a particular focus for the organisation will be the re-imagining of the International Slavery Museum and the Maritime Museum along with the wider Waterfront footprint.
Number of vacancies: 3
Time commitment: 8 day(s) per annum
Reasonable expenses will be reimbursed.

Job Requirements
All Applicants to any of the three Trustee roles will be required to demonstrate the below qualities in their application:
– A genuine passion for NML and a commitment to our mission and values.
– An understanding of NML’s unique role as the only national museum group based solely outside London.
– Strategic board-level experience, collaborating with fellow board members, stakeholders, and executive management.
– A strong grasp of public sector corporate governance.
– Dedication to preserving cultural heritage and advancing education and understanding about our wide range of globally significant collections.
In addition to the essential criteria outlined above, candidates for individual Trustee roles should also be able to demonstrate the following criteria:
– For a Trustee with Legal expertise;
– For a Trustee with experience in building development, planning and estate management and;
– For a Trustee with curatorial/historical knowledge.

As a Trustee, you’ll collaborate with a dynamic Board and a talented management team, providing leadership and expertise to guide NML’s strategy and help drive our continued success. You’ll help us push boundaries, champion new ideas, and ensure our work reflects the diverse communities we serve.
