We are seeking personable, engaging museum assistants to deliver expert tours at the Battle of Britain Bunker, as well as acting as support steward, assisting the public and ticket sales, helping co-ordinate rotas and volunteers and working with the public in our other historic sites in the London Borough of Hillingdon. This role is 18 hours per week.
Can you bring history to life for visitors? Support front-of-house operations, including ticket sales, rota coordination, and provide volunteer assistance?
Engage with the public across our historic sites, ensuring a welcoming and informative experience?
Assist with additional duties, such as managing private hire bookings, running the gift shop, supporting social media and website updates, and working on small-scale projects?
We are looking for a history enthusiast with a convincing presentation style and the ability to tell true stories fluently. They can adapt their style to match different audiences, whether young children, tourists or enthusiasts and ensure the audience follows them. They may need to undertake independent reading and research to deepen knowledge and deal with customer questions.
They will be able to give regular tours and short talks to members of the public on a regular basis and be able to find as much enthusiasm for the subject with their first audience as their hundred-and-first.
Job Requirements
- To deliver historically accurate, entertaining and well-timed tours to members of the public, mainly at the Battle of Britain Bunker, based on a framework developed by the curatorial team
- To adjust the approach and content of tours and other interpretation, to reach diverse audiences, including children and visitors from other countries
- To deliver both regular and family/education tours as directed
- To build knowledge on the specialist subjects delivered, conduct independent research, and be able to answer questions from the public
- To act as support steward to other tour guides and help the public to enjoy our historic premises safely
- To undertake other stewarding and museum tasks as required;
- To increase access to Museums sites by conducting accessible tours/talks and private tours for specialist interest groups
- To work on front desk and undertake ticket sales shifts
- Assist with staff and volunteer rotas
- To assist in the training and mentoring of new staff
