MiSST SATURDAY MUSIC SCHOOL (WEST LONDON) – ORCHESTRA LEAD / CONDUCTOR

Duties of the Post
1.
Directing the Saturday Music School (West London) Orchestra
1.1 To be the creative lead for the 2-hour weekly orchestral rehearsal at the SMS-WL
1.2 To conduct and lead the orchestra in a way that keeps rehearsals fun and engaging
whilst always having high expectations and with an appropriate level of challenge
1.3 To work with MiSST’s Director of Excellence Programmes and Director of Music
(Curriculum) in relation to choosing repertoire, creative approaches and continuing
to ensure the SMS-WL stays aligned with the MiSST Music Academy
1.4 To work closely with the SMS-WL instrumental tutors, giving clear instructions and
guidance related to sectionals and other rehearsal matters
1.5 To fairly decide, alongside the instrumental tutors, how the sections are seated

1.6 To make sure the orchestra is progressing well, performing termly, and concert-
ready for MiSST’s annual events

2.
Teaching music theory top-up classes
2.1 To work with MiSST’s Director of Music (Curriculum) and Dormers Wells’ Head of
Music to facilitate appropriate-level, 1-hour, top-up theory classes in line with
MiSST’s teaching methods
2.2 To create, acquire or request resources for these classes where needed
2.3 To cater these sessions for the specific students that attend and more relevant to
orchestral playing than their in-school lessons
3.
Other
3.1 Work with the MiSST Team / SMS Team towards any performances
3.2 Undertake tasks that would be deemed reasonable within the remit of this role
