Job Description

Do you have experience of supporting students with additional learning needs or a keen interest in this area?

Would you relish the unique opportunity to support our talented students training for the performing arts with written assignments?

We’re looking for an experienced SEN tutor or a graduate student to provide individualised learning support to students training on our diploma and degree courses in Acting, Dance and Musical Theatre.

Ideally, you’ll have a good undergraduate degree/diploma in a relevant discipline or a thorough understanding and awareness of dyslexia, dyspraxia, ADHD/neurodiversity and the impact that these conditions can have on individual learners so as to provide appropriate support in written English, constructing an argument and structuring essays and assignments. In addition, a good understanding of the range of support available for students with these conditions, such as the Disabled Students’ Allowance, is also a requirement of the post.

An awareness of performing arts training and an interest in the drama/musical theatre canon would be a bonus but is not essential.

If this sounds like an opportunity that would inspire you we would love to hear from you.

Our classes run from 8.00am-8.15pm, Monday to Saturday, and individual consultations are arranged with students throughout the week. The 22.5 hours-per-week for this part-time post would be spread across our opening hours from Monday to Saturday, (ideally on Thursdays, Fridays & Saturdays although we could be flexible for the right candidate).

Job Requirements

  • Providing study skills tuition as required to students with Specific Learning Difficulties and disabilities, over all courses. Assisting in the development and provision of support to students through appropriate mediums, as required.
  • Accurately completing all administrative functions in a confidential and efficient manner including updating electronic and paper records, keeping accurate data on students from entry to exit, and taking appropriate follow-up action through tracking and monitoring student progress, achievement and departmental outcomes.
  • Assessing the interaction of a student’s additional learning needs within the academic environment and interpreting and applying professional recommendations to develop a suitable plan for the provision of reasonable adjustments in line with the student’s level of need. Assisting students to understand their disabilities and their rights and responsibilities relating to reasonable accommodations.
