Houghton Feast Schools Workshop Commissions

We are looking for a creative / creative team who will engage at least 8 primary schools in the Houghton- Le-Spring area. Please note that Sunderland Council has advertised the opportunity for schools to engage in creative workshops as part of the Houghton Feast and is currently awaiting responses, the Council able to confirm which schools are taking part in this project soon and provide the appointed creative/s with the relevant contact details.

There is an expectation that the appointed artist will work with between 160-200 young people – between 20-25 young people per group.

A teacher or member of staff will be present at each workshop. However, we would expect the organisation/artist to have all relevant permissions/risk assessments/insurances and safeguarding requirements to work with children in place.

Each pupil should be involved in creating a piece of finished artwork to be displayed at their school and digitally as part of the wider schools exhibition (either individual pieces, a school collective piece or overall joint piece from the 8 schools).

We are open to joint submissions from artists. The contract and payments will be with the University of Sunderland (The Cultural Spring’s lead body).
