Job Summary

Nottingham Cathedral’s Restoring Pugin Project is seeking four Heritage Assistants on a part-time freelance basis. The four Heritage Assistants will support events, activities and evaluation, from October 2025 to March 2027. This is a fixed term contract of 36 days at £110 per day, total of £3,960.

Job Description

The primary purpose of these roles is to support the Engagement Manager (EM) in the delivery of Activity Plan events and activities, and collect and analyse evaluation data. Most tasks will be delivered on site at the Cathedral, with some delivered in community and education settings within Nottinghamshire. No office is provided, so some tasks may need to be fulfilled from home. The role will offer practical paid experience in a heritage setting and will suit someone aiming to pursue a career in heritage. Principle duties and responsibilities

You will work with the EM to deliver a range of events, workshops and activities for different audiences

You will work with the Welcome Lead to support the delivery of a programme of training, support meetings, and social events for volunteers

You will work with the Evaluation Consultant to collect data throughout the project and support with collation of findings

You will contribute towards website and social media content

You will attend a range of pop-up events to promote the project widely across the county

You will support with a range of activities to share the learning from the Restoring Pugin project to other organisations

You will attend project meetings at the request of the Engagement Manager.

Job Requirements

Essential:

Good administration skills

Knowledge of Outlook, Word, Excel

The ability to prioritise your workload

Good communication skills, both written and oral.

Excellent organisational skills

Interested in heritage

Confident, organised and self-motivated

Friendly, approachable and a good team worker

Happy to work outside of your comfort zone and think laterally

Have an understanding of and commitment to equality and diversity

Understand and empathise with the Christian values inherent within this project

Desirable:

Exp. working with volunteers

Exp. of working with churches or cathedrals

Exp. working with people from a wide range of backgrounds

Exp. working in a heritage environment

Exp. of desk top publishing packages e.g. Canva

Exp. of web publishing and social media

Understand the barriers that exist in engaging new audiences with a place of worship
