Job Summary

The role requires someone who has excellent technical knowledge and a calm, practical approach to technical troubleshooting. Candidates must have previous experience of managing a department, demonstrable experience of working with all hair types and the ability to work in high pressure environments

Job Description

To be responsible for the running of the Wigs, Hair and Make-Up department on the production;
To dress and set the wigs/hairpieces and assist the cast with fitting them for each performance;
To manage the preparation and good maintenance of wigs, hairpieces, and equipment, including checks prior to each performance;
To maintain wigs and hairpieces between performances and ensure proper storage;
To carry out the setting up and closing down of the department at each venue;
To order and replenish hair and make-up supplies as needed;
To provide the cast with advice or assistance with their make-up upon request;
To manage petty cash for the department;
To organise any replacements, alterations or repairs needed for the wigs and/or hairpieces;
Any other reasonable duty that would normally fall within the remit of a Head of Wigs, Hair and Make-Up based on industry norms and practice.

Job Requirements

Demonstrable professional experience working in a similar role in the West End or on Tour;
Knowledge and experience of the working practices of a first class touring or West End production;
Strong communication skills, both verbal and written with excellent attention to detail;
Extensive Wigs/Hair experience and excellent technical skills;
Demonstrable experience of working with all hair types;
The ability to work well with actors and creative teams;
Ability to work under pressure and effectively prioritise;
Experience of working on a new production;
Awareness of current Health & Safety legislation.
