Job Summary

CADS South Yorkshire is seeking a Head of Operations to lead the day-to-day running of the charity. The role includes managing buildings, staff and resources, ensuring financial and regulatory compliance, and supporting the organisation’s growth. 26 hours per week with potential for more.

Job Description

CADS South Yorkshire (Creative Arts Development Space) is a charitable organisation that transforms disused and underused buildings into affordable and inspiring spaces for artists, creative businesses and community groups. Through our network of studios, rehearsal rooms and venues, we play a vital role in supporting Sheffield’s independent cultural sector and ensuring access to space for creativity and innovation.

We are seeking a Head of Operations to provide strong leadership in the day-to-day management of the organisation. This senior role is central to ensuring that our buildings, staff and systems operate effectively and sustainably. You will oversee a diverse property portfolio that currently includes Eagle Works, Arley Street Studios, Exchange Street, and the newly opened Denby Rooms, with further projects in development.

The postholder will be responsible for the effective running of our sites, including property management, health and safety, compliance, repairs and maintenance. You will also lead a small team of staff and contractors, providing line management and support, while developing systems that ensure smooth and efficient operations.

Financial oversight will form a key part of the role, managing cash flow and maximising income from lettings and rentals. You will liaise with the Board of Trustees and contribute to strategic decision-making, ensuring that CADS continues to grow sustainably.

We are looking for a candidate with excellent organisational and problem-solving skills, a strong background in operations or property management, and the ability to lead people effectively. You should be practical, adaptable, and confident working across a wide range of responsibilities, from managing contractors to developing policies.

This is a rewarding opportunity to play a central role in the next phase of CADS’ development, supporting Sheffield’s creative communities and contributing to the regeneration of the city through innovative cultural spaces

Job Requirements

The successful candidate will have strong experience in operations or property management, ideally within the arts, charity or social enterprise sectors. You should be confident managing buildings, budgets and people, with proven skills in problem-solving and organisational planning.

Essential requirements include:

  • Experience managing multiple sites, contractors and repairs

  • Knowledge of health and safety, compliance and risk management

  • Strong financial management skills, including budgeting and monitoring cash flow

  • Line management experience and ability to support a small team

  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills

  • Practical, adaptable and solutions-focused approach

Desirable:

  • Knowledge of Sheffield’s arts and cultural sector

  • Experience working with creative spaces or venues

  • Understanding of charity governance or working with trustees
