Refugee theatre company https://www.phosphorostheatre.com/ – Phosphoros Theatre is excited to be recruiting for a Head of Community Engagement (maternity cover). We are looking for a confident team leader with a passion for bold and brave work with young people facing structural inequality. We are interested in hearing from people who find our approach exciting, and share our values around using the arts to elevate and amplify refugee narratives. This is an exciting creative leadership role that will have a big impact within our theatre company and on the lives of our members.

The purpose of the job is to lead on our community engagement strategy with a particular focus on growing and consolidating employment routes for early career artists and facilitators from refugee backgrounds. Specifically:
– Managing a small Community Engagement team who deliver projects for newly arrived refugee youth aged 16-25
– Leading an Artist Development programme for 18-25 year olds
– Leading a Facilitation Training programme for 18-25 year olds

We recognise the barriers facing artists and practitioners from refugee backgrounds, and actively encourage people with lived experience of the asylum system to apply to join our team.

Job Requirements

– 4+ years experience project management in an arts, charity or community setting, including staff supervision, developing strategy and budget management
– Ability to design high quality creative projects that embed co-creation and prioritise collaboration with young people
– Skills in designing and delivering training, particularly aimed at youth or peer leaders and experts-by-experience, and/or early career artists
– Experience working in a participatory or applied arts / community setting with people who face structural or social inequality
– Strong creative background and ability to co-develop new performance work in brave and unusual ways
– Excellent communication skills and confidence collaborating online and in person
– Ability to form positive, trusting and boundaried relationships with youth members, staff, volunteers and trustees
– Confident managing a busy workload and remaining responsive to need
– Advanced knowledge and training in safeguarding children and adults at risk
