Art Rickshaw London
Job Summary
Job Description
Art Rickshaw is building a roster of freelance artists to lead creative workshops in creative spaces such as museums, galleries and community centres as well as social spaces such as pubs, bars and caf s across London.
We run artist-led sessions where participants create something special, engaging in a variety of mediums – resin coasters, batik fabric, fluid art, pottery, watercolour botanicals. Our artists don’t need formal teaching experience, but they do need to be comfortable guiding 12-20 people through a hands-on activity in a social setting.
We handle everything else: venue partnerships, ticket sales, marketing, all materials, setup logistics and cleanup support. You arrive and lead the session!
We’re particularly interested in artists working in:
– Painting (acrylics, watercolour, gouache, soft pastels)
– Fluid art and pour painting
– Resin art (coasters, clocks, trays, jewellery)
– Pottery, ceramics and ceramic glazing
– Textile crafts (batik, block printing, tie and dye, screen printing)
– Drawing (life drawing, charcoal, urban sketching)
– Craft (string art, dot mandala, tote bag painting, lino printing)
– Neon and UV painting
– Any other hands-on craft that works in a relaxed social setting
Sessions typically run 1.5-2.5 hours on weekday evenings or weekends. We’re building a regular programme, so we hope to offer this as ongoing freelance work, instead of a one-off.
We’re a South Asian creative collective founded in Kolkata in 2016, now expanding across London. We believe art belongs in everyday spaces, not behind gallery walls. If that resonates with you, we’d love to hear from you.
Fee: £80 – £240 per session depending on activity, duration and complexity.
Job Requirements
– Based in London with willingness to travel across zones for sessions
– Confident leading a group of 12-20 complete beginners through a hands-on creative activity
– Comfortable working in formal settings (museums, community centres, galleries) as well as informal social settings (pubs, bars, caf s)
– Flexible availability for evening and/or weekend sessions
– Portfolio or examples of your work (Instagram, website or images)
– Comfortable engaging a room
– Public liability insurance (PLI) preferred – or willingness to obtain it. We can discuss cover arrangements
– DBS check preferred if available (required for any sessions involving under-18s)
– No formal teaching qualification needed, but workshop or group facilitation experience is a plus
– Must have the right to work in the UK on a freelance basis
– Able to manage your own time, arrive prepared and work independently at the venue
