Job Description
Spirix Collective is seeking an experienced Tehcnical & Production Mentor to support a cohort of young people aged 16-22 as part of Spirix Creatives, a year-long creative development programme designed to give young people practical experience, skills and insight into the creative industries.
The Technical & Production Mentor will be responsible for planning and delivering 10 engaging, practical sessions focused on the behind-the-scenes roles involved in producing and delivering theatre, dance and live performance.
Working alongside the Spirix Creatives team, the post holder will bring their professional experience as a technical and production lead into the programme, giving young people a practical insight into what it takes to deliver a professional theatre or dance production. They will introduce participants to the technical and creative processes involved in bringing a production to life, building their confidence and understanding of the wide range of roles available behind the scenes.
Sessions may explore areas including technical management, lighting design and operation, sound, video and visual content, stage and backstage management, production management, producing, show calls, working with venues and technical teams, production planning, equipment and technical requirements, and coordinating the different departments involved in delivering a live performance.
We are looking for someone who is an experienced production professional, confident facilitator and passionate advocate for developing the next generation of creative talent.
Job Requirements
Essential experience: professional experience in theatre, dance, live events or a related production environment; experience of planning and delivering live creative projects; experience of working with young people aged 16-22; and the ability to lead engaging, practical workshops or learning sessions specialising in techncial/backstage/production.
Skills and knowledge: strong knowledge of the production process and the roles involved in delivering live performance; excellent organisation and project management skills; ability to communicate industry knowledge clearly and accessibly; strong facilitation skills; ability to create an inclusive and supportive learning environment; and a practical, solutions-focused approach to working with young people and creative teams.
Desirable: experience working across both theatre and dance; experience delivering workshops or training for young people; experience of working with emerging creatives; knowledge of the creative landscape.
