Job Summary

The Churchill Theatre in Bromley are recruiting for a new Freelance Director for their Creative Learning team. Working alongside a professional Theatre Director/Facilitator, we offer a unique opportunity to work with our senior youth group, Young Company 2 aged 16+ at a leading professional theatre.

Job Description

Working within the Creative Learning Dept of the Churchill Theatre in Bromley, we are recruiting for the position of Co-Director/Facilitator for our Young Company 2 classes held on Wednesday evenings during school term times.

HOURS: 2 per week during term time (3 x 11 week terms) with additional hours for rehersals ahead of performances as required.

You will be working alongside an experienced facilitator in each of the sessions and supported by the Creative Learning Manager.

The Young Company work towards termly performances in our Studio space and once a year on our main stage in July.

The sessions are from 6.30pm-8.30pm each week and there is paid termly planning time. As our senior youth theatre group the age range is 16+ and we limit class sizes to make them as inclusive as possible.

The focus is on building individual skills and stage craft whilst working as a Company ensemble. The role gives the participants opportunities to develop their confidence as performers and supports them in their personal development. There are opportunities to create exciting and ambitious work for the company members to perform on a professional stage, and whilst many of the participants go on to study drama at college, the group is also an important social opportunity and drama games are an important part of the weekly sessions.

Performances are built around the Directing/Facilitators plans for the term. There is freedom within the role to explore a wide range of genres including scripted work, mime, dance, improv, puppetry, mask work and physical theatre for example.

We are looking for someone with previous experience in a creative setting as a theatre practitioner, in particular working with older teenagers with good technical skills in sound and lighting and is excited about joining a pro-active and energetic department within a busy theatre.

To have worked in a creative setting as a theatre practitioner, working with young people in a similar role.
