The Project

To review the community engagement activity of East Riding Museums Service. A programme that includes co-curated community social history exhibitions, community outreach, workshops and an annual poetry festival.

The museum service is seeking a consultant to review this work from 2021 onwards. Outcome required from this contract is an evaluation report of the work that can support future funding applications. The service would like it to include positive actions plan for more inclusive engagement with communities in the development of projects using good practice guidance from sector bodies such as the Museums Association.

Background

East Riding Museums Service (ERMS) comprises 6 varied sites, Sewerby Hall and Gardens, Skidby Windmill and Hessle Chalk Mill, Goole Museum in the west to the Treasure House & Beverley Art Gallery and Beverley Guildhall.

The museum service has had a primary objective of engaging and co-curating with communities for many years with exhibitions and events across all sites and collections. Currently the service has an Assistant Curator Community, funded through the Humber Museums Partnership NPO working on community programmes, both onsite and in East Riding of Yorkshire communities. The service also has site-based community researched and supported exhibitions delivered by an experienced and enthusiastic curatorial and learning team.

Job Requirements

General Requirements
The commissioned consultant will have relevant experience in evaluating and/or delivering community engagement work.
Be ICT literate, approachable and self-sufficient.
Can get to a variety of venues within the East Riding of Yorkshire.

ERMS will provide:
Access to East Riding Museums sites.
Staff liaison with consultant as needed.
All available documents and reports.
