Job Summary

Dance artist seeking folk musician based in Cornwall to join R&D of new dance-theatre show this summer

Job Description

Rachel Elizabeth Coleman is looking for a folk musician to join the company of their new dance-theatre work ‘VILLAGERS’.

Activity: 8 days R&D of the dance-theatre show VILLAGERS

Location: Cornwall-based, able to drive

Dates: July 17th (10-5pm), July 20th (9-4pm), August 3rd (10-5pm), 11th – 15th August (Monday – Friday, 10-5pm)

Fee: 8 days @ £1,016

This call out is for the research and development phase (R&D) for VILLAGERS. There is no public-facing performance during the R&D, but the hope is the successful individual will be keen to remain part of the performing company for future touring.

As the musician you will work directly with Rach (director/lead choreographer) to compose and create a unique folk-inspired score for a 55-65 minute performance. You will be the only musician and perform in the finished piece alongside 5 dancers, bringing your compositions to life onstage.

At this time there’s no specific instrument(s) in mind, but being comfortable singing and improvising is key. You must be able to bring your own instruments, be self-sufficient at setting up your own tech, and also be comfortable playing outdoors and acoustically. There is an invitation to join moments of group choreography, but having experience in dance is not required for this role.
