Film Maker – Derby Libraries Dungeons and Dragons Project

Derby Libraries

Job Summary

To create a video and audio record of the project, producing this as a series of entertaining and informative video shorts and audio podcasts for release on YouTube.

Job Description

Do you have strong experience of filming participatory project activities to a high standard? Are you able to work collaboratively with other creatives, and do you have experience working with young people? Are you interested in Table-Top Role-Playing Games (TTRPG) and/or Derby’s local history?

If so, we need your skills and expertise to record project activity and produce a series of video shorts and audio podcasts, creating a video and audio record of this exciting project.

Our project, made possible thanks to National Lottery players, will see young volunteers coming to the Local Studies Library to create a fantasy role-playing campaign, based on Dungeons and Dragons from Wizards of the Coast. They’ll work alongside library staff, a games-master and a range of professional creatives to uncover stories from the library’s archival collection and weave them into the game.

Each of the short films you produce will help build public interest in the TTRPG campaign and the library will host a range of family-friendly activities and events following each release.

Timeframe: August 2025 – March 2027

Job Requirements

To attend weekly project sessions and film project activity at the library, including filming other creatives at work, volunteer research and group discussion, interviews with project personnel etc.

To edit and produce captured footage as a series of short videos for release during the project lifecycle.

To make audio recordings of the game being play-tested by the volunteers, led by the Game Master. Edit these recordings down into a series of podcasts, working with the GM and storyteller to script and insert narration.

To collaborate with other project personnel and devise a method of working that allows capture of compelling footage with minimum disruption.

To attend project review/planning meetings with Project Manager, Project Coordinator and other project personnel

To engage with and contribute to the project evaluation
