We are seeking a friendly, well-organised and detail-oriented Festival Event Manager to join our team during Southwell Music Festival 2025 on a temporary freelance basis. The role is part of the frontline professional team for our busy four-day festival. A job-share will be considered if needed.

Job Description

The Festival Event Manager is part of the frontline professional team for our busy four-day festival. Our Festival Hub in Trebeck Hall will be your base, but you will support events at venues across Southwell. You will work alongside our General Manager, Festival Hub Manager, Box Office Manager, Volunteers and Festival Maker apprentices.

The role demands excellent standards of event management and customer service. You will oversee the delivery of smaller festival events, supported by our General Manager. You will also be trained in the use of our Box Office system, to provide cover/relief for our Box Office Manager during quieter periods.

You’ll provide:

  • General supervision for events, setups & packdowns, ensuring things run efficiently and to-schedule.
  • General trouble-shooting in consultation with our General Manager & Festival Hub Manager.
  • A go-to point for our experienced Volunteer Event Coordinators, Production Team & Artists.
  • Supervision & support new volunteers & our apprentice Festival Makers.
  • Box Office cover, selling tickets & merchandise for concerts & events & answering general event enquiries.

Please note, larger events & box office duties are also supported by our General Manager & Festival Hub Manager.

Fee: £1,000 fee for 50 working hours in total (equivalent to £20 ph).

Expected shifts:

Festival setup (16 hrs over 4 days):

18/08-21/08: 4-hour shift each day for training, setup & box office cover.

Festival event days/packdown (34 hrs over 5 days, with one meal per day provided):

22/08: PM+EVE shift, approx. 12:30pm-8:30pm, with one hour evening meal & two shorter breaks.

23/08: AM+PM shift, approx. 8am-4pm, with one hour lunch & two shorter breaks.

24/08: 8-hour shift with one hour for main meal & two shorter breaks. Preferred timing can be agreed.

25/08: AM+PM, approx. 8am-4pm, with one hour lunch & two shorter breaks.

26/08 (Packdown): AM+PM shift approx. 8am-3pm with an hour for lunch & two short breaks.

Job Requirements

The role is varied and you will be working across multiple parts of the festival to deliver exciting and innovative events for our audiences and artists.

The role requires strong organisational and communication skills, a calm and flexible attitude, attention to detail, & a passion for live music and/or the arts.

You will:

Ensure safe and well-organised events, resolving/re-directing issues as necessary, in collaboration with the General Manager.

Handle questions from artists, staff, crew, volunteers and customers, and resolve/re-direct as necessary.

Provide cover for our Box Office Manager during quieter periods; greeting our customers in a friendly and welcoming manner, and assisting them with ticket purchases (training will be provided but you will need to pick this up quickly).

Cover general duties as deemed appropriate by the General Manager and/or Festival Hub Manager.
