Job Summary

Events Volunteers will help organise and run events by helping to create a positive and warm welcome; helping attendees access the event, and giving all visitors to events a great day or evening leaving them with a positive lasting impression.

About the Hearth Arts Centre

The Hearth Arts Centre is a registered charity at the heart of Horsley, Northumberland – a place where creativity, caf hospitality, community, and culture converge. Our centre brings people together through a unique blend of artistic practice, social connection, and welcoming spaces.

The site includes eight working artist studios, a popular community caf , and two versatile event spaces used for workshops, classes, performances, and community gatherings.

We are dedicated to enriching lives and fostering creativity, helping people connect through shared experiences. Whether someone is visiting to enjoy art, take part in an activity, meet friends in the caf , or simply soak up the atmosphere, The Hearth offers a warm, inclusive environment where creativity and community thrive.

What’s involved?

  • Creating a great first impression
  • Making every visitor feel welcome, and answering visitors’ questions
  • Keeping note of how many visitors attend the events
  • Looking after the visiting exhibitors by offering refreshments
  • Selling items for The Hearth i.e. annual calendar
  • Making sure things run as smoothly and safely as possible – this includes getting to know health and safety and evacuation procedures and being aware of overall security

    Time commitment:

    This is a flexible opportunity and we’d love to hear from potential volunteers able to contribute 2-4 hours on particular dates when our events fall. You can opt to support a single event, our full programme, or pick and choose depending on your own availability and interests.

We want all our volunteers to feel welcome and to have a positive experience when volunteering with us. Volunteers will therefore:

  • Be provided with the necessary induction, training, equipment and reasonable adjustments to do this role well and safely
  • Be offered expenses to cover agreed travel costs between home and place of volunteering.
