Embedded Creative Evaluator / Critical Friend

Thrive

Job Summary

Thrive is seeking an Embedded Creative Evaluator / Critical Friend to accompany its 12-month residency programme, helping define success, capture learning, ask useful questions and shape the programme as it develops.

Job Description

Thrive is seeking an experienced Embedded Creative Evaluator / Critical Friend to accompany its one-year Residency Programme for Socially Engaged Practice.

Working alongside artists, communities, trustees, the advisory group and Artistic Director, you will help establish an evaluation framework, explore what success looks and feels like, gather meaningful evidence and feed learning back into the programme while there is still time to respond.

This is a relational and creative approach to evaluation, looking beyond outputs and attendance to questions of belonging, kinship, community, artistic development, relationship to place and the more-than-human world.

The role is freelance for approximately 15 days across 12 months, at £300/day (£4,500 total). Some work can be remote, but the successful applicant will need to spend time in Meare, Somerset and attend selected programme activity in person.

We welcome evaluators, researchers, artist-researchers, critical friends and others with relevant experience across socially engaged arts, participatory research, creative health, anthropology, community practice or qualitative research.

Job Requirements

We are looking for someone with experience evaluating socially engaged, participatory or community arts practice, and with strong qualitative, participatory and/or narrative research skills.

Experience with Most Significant Change or related story-based methodologies would be valuable, as would familiarity with Creative & Credible methodology and/or the National Centre for Creative Health Quality Framework.

You should be confident working sensitively with artists, communities and people with diverse lived experiences; able to work with qualitative and proportionate quantitative evidence; and able to evaluate artistic research and process without reducing success to outputs and attendance.
