Job Description

Stagecoach Kings Heath Performing Arts School is seeking an outgoing, knowledgeable and experienced Drama teacher to plan and deliver exciting lessons to 7-16-year olds – on a Performing Arts rotation with Dance and Singing. Our venue is a secondary school in Kings Heath, with our current school running from 9.30am to 1pm Saturday mornings (36 weeks a year) in term time.

Ideally you have a wealth of knowledge of drama styles and teaching strategies to engage our students and aid their acting skills. With lots of opportunities to develop performances in school and at regional/national events, we require a drama teacher who has a strong creative vision and is confident managing groups of students. Familiarity with Musical Theatre is an asset but not necessary. We are looking for a teacher who has a love of stories, with good storytelling skills, and is an imaginative, honest, reliable, and professional team member.

Applicants will need to undergo a DBS check (unless already registered on the update service) and commit to our Child Protection policy, including completing short Safeguarding CPDs.

It is essential that you can commit to a full academic year.

Competitive pay of £26 p/h

Job Requirements

  • Experience of teaching children – ideally 7-16yrs.
  • Teaching qualifications – QTS is not essential, evidence of your teaching expertise is.
  • Knowledge of a range of teaching strategies aimed at developing students’ creativity and skills competency.
  • Strong subject knowledge: styles of theatre performance, vocal, physical, improvisation. Ability to teach both script-led and devising performance.
  • Experience and confidence with managing groups of students – usually no more than 18 in a class.
  • Good organisation, planning skills, flexible and able to adapt when necessary.
  • Reliable and punctual .
  • Excellent understanding of safe working practices and Safeguarding essentials.
  • Willingness to work as a team and independently to create high standard outcomes.
