Double Bass Instrumentalist

Double bass/Hermit Crab
We are seeking a playful, imaginative performer who can move confidently, improvise and is happy to sing and play. All instrumentalists will have small vocal moments, and all company members (singers and players) will use simple handheld percussion.
Please note that you will be on stage for the production, in costume and off-book and required to be available for all rehearsals and tour performances.

PRODUCTION
A new opera made with and for very young children based on the picture book by David Wiesner, with new music and words by award-winning composer and writer Dr Kerry Andrew. Building on OperaUpClose’s reputation for creating “spell-binding, magical, inventive theatre” (A View from Behind the Arras) for children and their parents, Flotsam brings David Wiesner’s much-loved picture book to life. Rehearsals w/c 5th and 12th October 2026 at London Bubble, London
Tech w/c 19th October 2026 at Half Moon Theatre, London
Tour opening 24th October 2026 at Mayflower Studios, Southampton
Theatre and schools tour 26th October – 15th November.

FEE
£795.90/week

EXPENSES
It will be the responsibility of the artist to arrange their own travel and accommodation for the tour. They will receive an allowance of £93/night to cover accommodation + subs, plus the equivalent of an off-peak return train journey from their hometown to each tour venue.

Please note: In line with best practice in the theatre industry, we contract our touring company as freelance workers for extended engagements (usually for a week or more). The artist will remain self-employed and responsible for their own taxes and national insurance.
