Creative Music Animateur (Scottish Opera Education)

Scope of role and key accountabilities:
The Orchestra of Scottish Opera
Work closely with The Orchestra of Scottish Opera to enable creative work involving OSO players – supported by external experts, composers and facilitators in some cases – engaging with school and community groups;
Shadowing external artists and helping to create project content;
Assist in the delivery of CPD for players;
Devise and deliver workshop content to schools and other groups; initially as part of a team but gradually, being able to work independently;

Community Choirs
Shadow and support Community Choir directors in Glasgow and Edinburgh, including eventually being able to conduct chorus sessions in the absence of project staff;

Scottish Opera Children’s Chorus
Assist Children’s Chorus Director in devising and delivering auditions, workshops and prep sessions;
Lead rehearsals and devise content for termly activities;
Act as vocal coach for Scottish Opera summer school projects;

Breath Cycle
Shadow Breath Cycle creative team to devise and deliver weekly online sessions;
Participate in, and contribute to, prep and development sessions;
Be mentored by Breath Cycle creative team, including scope for composition and songwriting development work from creative lead Gareth Williams;
Contribute to weekly sessions.

Memory Spinners
Shadow Memory Spinners project team to devise and deliver weekly sessions;
Participate in, and contribute to, prep and development sessions;

Pilot programmes
Regular opportunities to engage with pilot programmes (including Scottish Opera’s Early Birds post-partum mothers & infants project) and to pitch new ideas (in line with own research preferences if applicable)

Qualifications, Knowledge & Experience
ESSENTIAL
Educated to degree level in Music
Practical skills and experience of delivering music-based workshops (any age group)
Strong communication and inter-personal skills
