Job Description
Keele University Philharmonic Orchestra and Choir are student led, Student Union and University supported societies made up of both Keele University students and local community members. The primary aims of the Orchestra have been to support the student experience and to give both students and local community members an opportunity to participate in music performing. Members of the orchestra participate for pleasure outside of their day-to-day education and work. Most members have achieved at least grade 6 (most are 7/8) however there are no strict requirements.
The Orchestra and Choir rehearse weekly during term time on Thursday evenings from 5pm – 9:15pm. Outside of rehearsal you will have contracted hours to cover time spent other areas outlined in the job responsibilities including conducting concerts, preparing and rehearsing repertoire, attending planning meetings etc. This initial contract will be for a total of 190 hours.
DEADLINE FOR EXPRESSIONS OF INTEREST: midday Thursday 20th November 2025. Trial – Thursday 27th November 2025.

Keele University Philharmonic Ensembles (KPE) is a student-led society supported by the Student Union and the University. It brings together Keele students and members of the local community to enjoy and perform orchestral and choral music. While most members have achieved Grade 6-8, the Orchestra and Choir welcome musicians of all levels who are passionate about ensemble playing. KPE aims to foster a positive and inclusive musical environment that supports personal growth and musical excellence.
Position Overview
Keele University Philharmonic Ensembles is seeking a dynamic and inspiring Orchestra and Choral Conductor to lead weekly rehearsals and termly performances. The conductor will work closely with the student committee, section leaders, and ArtsKeele to support the ensemble’s musical and organisational development.
