LUX
Job Summary
Job Description
This paid 12 month traineeship is a rare opportunity to gain experience in the care, preservation and access of a significant moving image collection. This role is designed for someone starting out in their career and includes structured hands-on training in important archiving skills, along with personal mentoring and professional development support.
Working closely with the LUX Collection & Archive team, you’ll handle film, video and digital moving image artworks – helping make the collection more accessible through cataloguing, digitisation, and preservation. We are particularly interested in hearing from applicants passionate about film and the visual arts, especially those who may not have had the opportunity to gain formal experience in museums or archives before.
We encourage applications from those who identify as being from a working class background and those without higher education degrees, and are committed to removing barriers to careers in screen, heritage and archive sectors.
Over 12 months, you’ll gain experience and training in:
- Cataloguing and metadata creation using a Collection Management System (CMS)
- Handling, digitising and assessing analogue film & video
- Understanding rights documentation and ethical archival practices
- Environmental monitoring and sustainable preservation techniques
- Sector-wide networking through archive visits, workshops, and expert mentoring
By the end of the traineeship, you’ll be equipped with the skills, confidence, professional support and network to pursue a career in the visual arts, museums, or archiving.
