Purpose
To provide strategic leadership and oversight of DeNada Dance Theatre, supporting the formation of its inaugural Board of Trustees and ensuring the organisation is well governed, financially sound, and aligned with its artistic vision, values and social purpose.
Working in close partnership with the Artistic Director, the Chair will help guide DeNada through its next phase of development, enabling bold artistic work that champions LGBTQ+ and Hispanic/Latinx voices.
Statutory duties (as Chair of the Board)
- Lead the Board of Trustees and ensure effective, inclusive governance
- Set agendas and chair Board meetings
- Support the recruitment, induction and development of Trustees
- Provide strategic oversight and contribute to long-term planning
- Ensure the organisation meets its legal, financial and regulatory responsibilities
- Oversee financial management, budgets and risk
- Ensure compliance with company law and Companies House requirements
- Act in the best interests of DeNada Dance Theatre at all times
- Declare and manage conflicts of interest
- Support and constructively challenge the Artistic Director
- Champion equality, diversity, accessibility and best practice
Further responsibilities
- Act as an ambassador for DeNada Dance Theatre
- Support advocacy and fundraising activity
- Extend the organisation’s networks and relationships
- Review and approve key policies such as Equality and Diversity, Safeguarding and Finance
- Help ensure the organisation remains artistically bold, socially purposeful and financially sustainable
Job Requirements
We are seeking someone with a strong commitment to DeNada’s mission and values, and the curiosity and confidence to help guide an ambitious organisation.
You may have experience as Chair or Trustee, or in a comparable governance role such as a School Governor. We also welcome first-time Chairs with relevant experience and a willingness to learn.
