The role
ABI – playing age: a youthful look is required as this role is that of a young person aged 8. Black/Afro-Caribbean. Playful, reflective and calm.
About the Show
Abi and her Grandad tell each other Anansi folktales. They play games and share secrets as they work together in the garden.
Grandad is as smart and mischievous as the wily Anansi legend, a part human, part spider and the subject of many West African and Caribbean folk stories. Can he find a way to tell his granddaughter about his plans to return to Jamaica, his beloved homeland?
Grandad Anansi is an uplifting tale of love, courage and letting go that celebrates storytelling and shines a light on Jamaican culture and the Windrush generation.
Project Dates
Auditions will take place on Monday 16 June in Manchester.
Rehearsals take place at Z-arts in Manchester.
Rehearsal week 1: w/c Monday 15 September 2025
Rehearsal week 2: w/c Monday 22 September 2025
Tech/Production week: w/c Monday 29 September 2025, opening Z-arts on 2 October 2025
Touring period: Monday 6 October 2025 – Sunday 16 November 2025
Fee
£660 per week invoice job (buy out).
Half Moon and Z-Arts are both ITC Equity Approved Managers, running ‘Fair Work Agreement’ contracts. Therefore, the contract for this job includes stated allowances, inc. per diems/accommodation provided on tour, relocation etc.
Actors travel in the company van with the Technical Stage Manager. Actors assist with get-in /get-out. Actors will be required to have or be willing to obtain an Enhanced DBS certificate.

Job Requirements
Demonstrable experience and training required, offering an energetic performance style, team player ethos, ideally with strong movement and singing ability. Confident in/interested in work for children and families. This being small-scale touring, assisting with get-ins/outs is part of the role. A DBS will be required. A valid, clean driving license is an advantage, but not essential. We particularly welcome those who are based in the North West of England.
