Job Summary

Job Description

Having appointed Susannah Stevenson as our Festival Director and Chief Executive in 2024, the Canterbury Festival now wishes to refresh its governance arrangements, appoint new trustees to its Trustee Board, and create a new Advisory Board. Our aim is to appoint trustees who will ensure that the Festival remains vital in its content and diversity for the next generation.

The Festival seeks to appoint 6-8 individuals to its Trustee Board so that collectively the Board has the knowledge and expertise to address standard charity matters such as financial, legal, human resource and strategic management issues, but also skills that relate particularly to an Arts charity in the 21st century (for example, digital marketing, curation and event delivery) and the personal qualities to make things happen.

The Festival also wishes to form an Advisory Board which would be larger and representative of the community in Canterbury and beyond. The Advisory Board will provide broad feedback, advice and recommendations to the Trustee Board, including on: the artistic quality of Festival events; the range and diversity of the Festival programme; new/wider trends in the creative and performing arts; and other related matters.

How to Apply

Expressions of interest are invited by Friday 14 November

If you are interested in supporting the Canterbury Festival as a member of either the Trustee Board or the Advisory Board, please email the Chair of the Canterbury Theatre and Festival Trust (Prof Keith Mander – [email protected]) to let us know how you would be able to assist the Festival, and the relevant experiences and skills that you would hope to bring.

If you would like to discuss a role informally before making a formal expression of interest, that would also be welcome.
