Cheshire Dance is seeking passionate individuals to join its Board and contribute to its mission of offering everyone access to dance, regardless of age, background, ability, or disability. As a Board member, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the effective governance and strategic direction of the organisation.
Cheshire Dance, founded in 1976, is a registered charity and a National Portfolio Organisation of Arts Council England. The organisation specialises in participatory community practice, with 97% of its engagement programme focused on addressing inequalities of opportunity and health within under-represented communities.
Cheshire Dance is currently seeking people with broad experience from ALL walks of life to join its Board. This includes those who identify through protected characteristics, disabled people (including hidden disabilities or neurodiversity such as autism and dyslexia), people from the global majority, LGBTQIA+ and Young People aged under 25 amongst others.
Ideal Board members share our passion for our work in underrepresented communities and our mission to ensure everyone has access to dance. It is not vital that you have active experience in the dance world, but you will share the passion for our purpose.
This is a voluntary role that offers the opportunity to give back to your community whilst gaining a wealth of transferrable personal and professional skills that will empower, enrich and enable you to extend your network in the creative, cultural, public, voluntary, education and health sectors.
Job Requirements
- Read and interrogate Board Reports, Minutes and Creative Schematics before Board meetings (x4 per year), in order to satisfy yourself that due process is carried out.
- Be available to attend x4 two-hour hybrid Board meetings and periodic Board Committee meetings (current ‘People and Policy’, ‘Artistic Programme’ and ‘Finance and Development’) to discuss more specific subjects, usually lasting no more than an hour.
- Ensure Cheshire Dance applies its resources exclusively in pursuance of its Charitable objects.
- Have an enthusiasm for the work of Cheshire Dance and the time and commitment to carry out the duties of a Board member
